Dotcomslashblog: 3D Desktop Looks Cool But…

A cool demonstration and lots of eye-candy, but I'm not sure this is the way to go. It looks to me like a reversion to the "messy desk" that computers were supposed to solve! In addition, while the different moves capable through the pen are fun to watch, it seems to me that keeping everything organized would take so many pen moves that I'd probably just get lazy and end up with a desktop I couldn't find anything on!

Perhaps this sort of interface would work best with portable computing... I'm thinking that handheld PC's, with their lack of mouse and (more importantly) lack of gigabytes of information to handle, could really benefit from this. Put it on my home PC though, and you'd be hard pressed to see any free space to manipulate the thousands of piles!

Handhelds and the likes, ey? That's a clever idea.

Also, that's something you have on your person most of the time you use it. See, I was just thinking it would be a great but cruel joke (but oh such fun) in office environments to give that desktop of the colleague you can't stand a quick good swirl when he's on his break.
