Dotcomslashblog: BlinkList, Where Are You?

  • Roger Kondrat · 3 years ago
    Hi Napfisk,

Saw your comment on my blog about Blinklist so I thought hey a like minded individual so I naturally came to take a peak.

Anyway I agree with your position, and I hear you about lets all play along, but I don't think its naive because there is a business case here for these companies to play nice with one another.

The reason being that they are simply not mainstream and they don't have the resources to hold out forever against their larger competitors e.g. My Web, Google Bookmarks, etc. So before they can start slugging it out for single digit market shares they need to establish their markets and that means mainstream.

The only way for them to become mainstream is to integrate and scratch each others back. This is no different a situation than any other. In the end survival if done correctly will depend on ease of use, and brand but only if they create a market they can survive in first.

One last thing. Guys Web2.0 is all about the community so if you don't share and keep your data open then just how Web2.0 are you?

Sorry for turning my comment into a post kinda got carried away. ;)

hi, was just passing through your blog. Had never thought about using Blinklist before. Thanks for the tiny review. Checked it out quickly, might be worth trying.

Too True Napfisk. I think that BlinkList has been working on their new Product BlinkLife @ http://www.blinklife.com/ which could be the reason for the slowdown in BlinkList.
  • Napfisk · 3 years ago
Right, BlinkLife, forgot about that. Not sure I'm signing up. There is a limit to trying out these new digital lifestyle apps.

Roger Canada - thanks for popping in. I see you have two blogs. I was unable to get the feed for the first and the second needs signing up, but I didn't get to that yet. I'll be sure to drop in again, though.

Lisa - thx as well, hope you enjoy BL, it's really worth it I think.

Sorry Chana - hope you did like the pic of the doggie though?

I'd never heard of BlinkList before either--though their page is a lot nicer to look at than either del.icio.us or Shadows.

I also was a Flock afficiando for a few months, until I realized I didn't use it enough for it to make sense. Never could get the flickr plug-in working to my satisfaction and I don't blog with Blogger and Wordpress. Still, the application's a great idea. I hope the features grow, though there are some significant bugs they need to work out.

    Hi Napfisk,

Was just looking at my site http://prof.rogerkondrat.com - Technological Winter and I don't know what you mean by having problems. That is odd and I would like to get clarification because I get a live bookmark on prof.rogerkondrat.com no problem and that is the same with Flock too. So to the best of my knowledge there is no syndication issue.

Also if you mean comments, I tried that as I did have a problem at one point and all it requires is email and name.

Please tell me about where you had difficulties because this isn't good if there is a problem. By the way I fixed my personal blog.rogerkondrat.com it did have an issue but thats because I wasn't concerned/delayed about fixing it.

My skype is rogerkondrat if you want to get in touch and you have my email.

    Cheers,
    Roger

Napfisk, glad to hear you're liking Flock. Yeah, it would be totally cool if someone created a Blinklist extension to Flock's favorites service. Anyone up to the challege can find how to here:

    http://wiki.flock.com/index.php?title=Favorites...

Anything else we can do to make it better, just let us know!

    Cheers,

Hi there. Just so you know, we are definitely now slowing down the innovation on BlinkList. A lot of it happens under the hood and we have been very busy so I have not been able to update our blog as much as I should.

However, just this week we rolled out a new feature to "flag" users. As we continue to see rapid growth we have seen more spammers try to take advantage of our community and we are taking measure to keep BlinkList spam free.

We would also love to work with Flock but they have been slow on making it easy to integrate our service. We are definitely more than happy to help. As to not getting as much news coverage, I agree with you that I would love to see us mentioned more often, especially since we tend to score far better. I guess we still don't have a PR engine are still a tiny bit too small but I see that changing.

Hope you will stick with us. We are anything from bailing. In fact, we are working on some major new enhancements and innovations that we are super excited about! Right now one of our big constraints is resources but we are hiring and growing our team.

Just to clarify, in the previous message it should say NOT instead of NOW when I was talkinga about the innovation on BlinkList. I guess I was typing a bit too fast. Rest assured lots more exciting enhhancements are on their way!
