Ha, Aidan, yeah, it's funny that I came up with the same idea. Seems like that is indeed the track everyone is on, even if it's happening slowly. But don't apologize about comments,; I'm happy you enjoyed thinking about this and will check out those links later.

Joe, you may be right that being online all the time (especially in pubs) isn't the way to go. But, like you, I'm just looking for a way to keep my ideas organized and accessible. Maybe I should try sending myself voice messages. Who knows what would come out of it!?

I don't think I'm part of the "out of sight, out of mind" camp when it comes to the internet. I do tend to send myself brief notes from my phone or write thoughts on napkins to remember to research a topic when back online, but don't really long for a day when I have continual access. Personally, I would like to have the information I've learned while online, but not be online to do so.

And in a pub? I'd never want to be online there. Think of what you'd miss happening right in the same room with you?

Seriously, though, it is actually a good idea, I read somewhere earlier today actually that Windows Vienna, Windows 7, whatever the codename is for it now is going to try something similar to what you guys were thinking about. It wasn't as good as what you guys had thought up though as it is purely based on the Windows Live services. I have sent you a few links on del.icio.us with regards to Windows 7/Vienna.

Ha, you’re right about that bit, not always having to remember the night before. Of course, before I’ll have any chips implanted, I should make clear that of course I still would want full control of what I share and how and with whom; much like I do now, only in a less complicated way.

The thing is that it's nice to escape sometimes. Yes it would be cool to always be 'online', to have access to the internet and your own personal computer no matter where you are, but I can't help thinking that it would have an alterior motive of keeping track of us and what we do.

At the moment in the UK there is still the wish from the government to implement compulsary ID cards, then bundle this in with biometric passports, loyalty clubcards from shops, and of course monitoring of emails etc and the 'Big Brother' state already knows so much about us and what we do. Can you imagine what it would be like if we were always online? If all our thoughts and meetings, as you suggest, were recorded?

I sometimes long for the chance to drop
off the grid, but I'm already too involved to do that. I would not be allowed.

And of course... sometimes it good to not remember the night before!

I haven't, actually. To be honest, I kind of forgot it existed. Thanks for the reminder, though. I'll be sure to check it out. However, I'd be disappointed if I had to wait another 994 years. I'll just see what it says in the book about that.

Did you read 3001: A Final Oddysey? If not, you should. Even if its just for the concept of these sort of helmets every single person wears and the sort of PDAs they come with.
They would pretty much work like what you describe here
