Maybe my memory isn't what it should be/used to be, or perhaps the knowledge that I've bookmarked an item allows me to file it in the short-term memory, thus purging it too soon.

Wait, what were we talking about?

Re: ISO Wins, Bookmarking Fails

Oh, and I've done that before (post something to del.icio.us that I'd already saved there earlier). In fact, I think it happened to me these past couple of days.

With all this talk and hype of the semantic web, I doubt it'll ever become a reality, unless someone works really hard to create a solid, end-to-end, and completely open implementation of it.

Re: ISO Wins, Bookmarking Fails

I'd never heard of Kalmykia before. It isn't an independent country, but this about it is interesting: "It is remarkable for being the only area of Europe in which the dominant religion has been Buddhism."

And: "It has also become famous because its current government has made it the chess center of the world."

Both of those quotes are from Wikipedia.

Re: ISO Wins, Bookmarking Fails

That was a quick bit of poking then; you never gave me the chance to ;)

Sounds good though, and I suppose somehow it would be possible to achieve. Obviously, to make it truly relevant, any search engine query would have to be checked against your bookmark titles, your descriptions and tags, and preferably against the site's content.

Imagine if I'd googled "Kalmyk language" – there would have been no mention of that term in my own del.icio.us pages; the query would have to have gone via the Ethnologist's site... That would be hard to do for every single query.

Suppose we dream on for a bit?

Re: ISO Wins, Bookmarking Fails

Meh; just poked around in the help pages fro the del.icio.us API. You can get links and filter them by tags, but there doesn't seem to be a way to filter them by a search query.

Darn.

Re: ISO Wins, Bookmarking Fails

I've done that countless times with del.icio.us: search for something, find something great, go to bookmark it, and discover that I did so, a year previous. There defiitely needs to be some sort of integration between our bookmarking services and our searches. I don't want to have to go to del.icio.us, search for what I'm after, and *then* go on to Google if I get nothing.

Really, I'm not sure why there couldn't be something like this now. Take a look at Customize Google. Obviously, you can add stuff to Google search results via Firefox addons, and, del.icio.us has an API. I admittedly know next to nothing about programming, but to me, it sounds as if you mash those two things together, you could search Google and your del.icio.us bookmarks simultaneously, and have the results all on one page.

Maybe I too, am dreaming. :)
