Dotcomslashblog: My Life As a Geek

    3 things:

-The first time I ever used a mouse was on a Commodore 64, but I had no programs that required a mouse so I proclaimed that it was a useless piece of gimmicky hardware.

-I once compared the IBM-compatible PC to the Commodore 64 and declared that the PC would go nowhere because they couldn't touch the 64 for graphic and sound ability.

-My first foray onto the World Wide Web involved a friend and I trying repeatedly to "get somewhere" by typing an address into the browser's address bar. Since it was an email address we were using, we got nowhere. It was at this point that I decided the Web was a fad destined to failure and dial-up BBSs were here to stay.

We can safely assume that you're not a visionary then, lol.

Hey, I once bought some light-laser pen or whatever it was thinking that was the way to go.

Oh yeah... And speaking of the Commodore 64 and War Games... I had this little program that simulated dialing our 300 baud modem, then displayed a screen designed to look like an interface for NORAD. No matter what keys were pressed, it accepted the string as an access code and switched to a screen saying, "Good day, Mr. President. Please make a selection." It then showed a list of things but, no matter what key was pressed, it announced, "Now launching Inter-continental Ballistic Missiles. Impact in 30:00" and the clock would start counting down.

Sadly, I managed to convince a (rather naive) friend we had just started WWIII.
