I was in a bar back in the fall, and there was a loud, blustery guy standing next to me who said he had a Latina woman come in for an interview at his law firm, and he decided to offer her a job. He said he wanted her to see how "inclusive" he was, so he threw the whole text of the letter into Babelfish and then cut and pasted that, printed it out, and sent it to her.

She never responded and he didn't understand why. "Maybe I got her address wrong," he said.

Idiot.

Genie
The Inadvertent Gardener

Re: The Tools of My Former Trade

:-) Your minds think alike!

Re: The Tools of My Former Trade

that's funny as i was just going to leave the same story...lol...

Re: The Tools of My Former Trade

I once got a love-letter from Chana when we first started dating, written entirely in Spanish. I let Google translate the text for me and was equally confused, amused, and appalled by the result. When Chana heard what I thought the letter said, she couldn't stop laughing. From then on, I had a co-worker from El Salvador do the translating for me, which was no less embarrassing, but infinitely more accurate!

I wish I would have known about these tools back then...
