And, ooh, a comment from one of the Useless Men; I'm honoured, thanks.
I can agree with your point on it symbolising pacifism. It's not just about remembering the war and those that gave their lives willingly for the greater good. It's more about those who gave their lives unnecessarily, those who didn't volunteer, those who faught on the frontline, getting killed for the sake of a few yards.
If you look at the figures who died, then you you can't help but think if it was really worth it.
Hopefully those that buy a poppy will know why they are wearing it, and hopefully it will mean that people will keep remembering the First World War, and not just consign it to the history books as something that is no longer relevant.
That's okay though.
