Dotcomslashblog: This Book Was Created Using Computers

  • Matt C. · 2 years ago
"[...]The book was edited on a WYSEpc 286 using XyWrite III software [...]"

Makes you wish for the days of manual typesetting.

"What did you print this with?"

    "Um...a printing press."

    "What kind?"

    "Um...let me check...it's a Heidelberg."

They do make it sound extremely complex. Perhaps it was. I don't see us identifying every app we use as 'software'. We wouldn't see the end of it.

Thanks for popping in. 4th of July is a quiet day when many of your readers are from you know where.

It's a charming quote, genre 'look mom, no hands!'.
Reading it now, it's almost adorable, bragging with slowtech :)
  • Nils Geylen · 2 years ago
Slowtech, yes, that does seem to have an infinite charm. Still, when I think of computers and IT five years ago, I'm already having a hard time imagining how we ever got along.

    You too, thanks for commenting.

Btw, je zit vlakbij zie ik ;-) Dat gebeurt steeds vaker... ik lijk wel 'gevonden' door de locals.

Bwa? Death of the blog? As in, blogs in general, or NDNL?
  • Nils Geylen · 2 years ago
Ha, no Josh: all blogs. That's your's too. Better prepare.
  • Smaran · 2 years ago
    Hahaha. That's funny. :)

This comment was created using a shit-expensive MacBook Pro.

LOL. I'll divulge then that this reply was written with online writing software that 'automagically' sent my text to a server. Crikey, that's amazing!

Knowing the folks over at QuarkXpress, they probably requested that the byline be listed there. So when our kids ask "Daddy, what did you design with before Adobe bought everything?" we would have something to show them.
  • Nils Geylen · 2 years ago
Hey Joe, thanks for dropping by. As for an alternative to Adobe, there's always Aldus... oh no, hang on... dang.
  • Joe Drinker · 2 years ago
Personally, I am a huge Adobe fan. I may even be an advocate. I hated Quark, and Pagemaker was my nemesis. It's just that Adobe seems to be dancing that fine line between fast, creative, responsive company and monolithic takeover monster.

    Cheers.
