Dotcomslashblog: Three Hundred and Sixty Five

You know, this is a pretty interesting idea. I though about doing something like this for myself, but I'm about as photogenic as a vampire (think Nosferatu, not Underworld). Also, I'm not much into photos. Strangely enough, I love photography.

Recently, I heard in a podcast that Kim Stanley Robinson (Mars trilogy) and his wife write one-line descriptions of their days in a calendar. They've been doing this for 15 years and can now sit at home for a weekend, pull out a calendar from years back and remember almost every day and what happened then.

I think I'll just wait for the brain implant in which I can plug ina 16gb memory stick and record my life through my eyes. Good luck on your project, though!

    This is a great achievement.

I'm going to give this a go - I know I'm going to find it difficult to keep going though - but I've got to try. I've not started this before because I know it's easier to just, well, not bother - so I have continually talked myself in to and out of doing it in the past.

I can imagine that it would be quite stressful as you have said. I know that I couldn't take one a day for a whole year, I'd run out of ideas as to what to photograph!

Obviously I haven't known you a whole year and therefore haven't seen all of your photographs but I have seen quite a lot from the 365 set and they are all very good. You seem to have quite an eye for photography, especially if you can find things to photograph every day!

Anyway, it is a great achievement so well done!!

    Thanks guys.

@Gnorb matter of fact I tried keeping a diary for about a year, a few years back. That, however, I did for all the wrong reasons, and while it may have provided me with a veneer of sanity at the time, I never really liked doing it. Love reading, and writing, but there's something about the mere volume and chance element of a photo a day that I simply quite like.

@Public Energy Well, I hope you enjoy it (commented on your post). Whatever happens, you'll at least have made the decision to start. That's something too.

@Aidan Yeah, "finding" something to photograph every single day seems the hardest part, but you learn looking at things differently as well. Or maybe, that's something I've always done?

Btw, I'm at least finishing up 2007. After that...

That's very cool Nils. Congratulations. Though I can commit to a wife, a mortgage, a university, etc, I don't think I could commit to a year every day of something as intentional as this.

    Kudos.

Hmn. 365 days. That sounds interesting. I think I want to do it, but I don't know if I could commit to it. Plus my life isn't THAT exciting. Haha. I would LOVE to give it a try, though.
Congratulations on your 365th photo. =)

@Joe Drinker Well, ironically perhaps, those are the things I've not yet been succesful in committing to myself. So I'd say: no, my friend, kudos to you.

@Janis Oh, but my life isn't that interesting either; that's the interesting bit. I'd hate for all those 365 pics to be slices of glamourous jet set lives. Thanks for the compliment and for taking the time to share.

Well done Nils. I've seen quite a few of the pictures on your flickr over the year, although I haven't seen them all, and I love it that they are all different.

If I had done this, I would find myself repeating the same shots, but you have managed to find something very unique in some everyday situations and locations. Well done again.

Also... I'm glad to be commenting back here again. I've been on a little commenting hiatus and only really seen blog updates through my google reader without actually visiting sites to comment. Hoorah for me!

Thanks Adem. Well, I'm glad to have you back. It's understandable, though, when people go off gallivanting in the Baltics.

I'm just swamped at work, so I keep marking stuff as read – not you, coz you're in my Must-reads of course.

    ;-)
